
Emma Openlander
Emma is a Traverse City native who has always had a passion for furry friends. She rode horses as a young girl and even taught her goldfish tricks!
Emma attended Michigan State University where she graduated with a degree in Zoology with concentrations in Zoo and Aquarium Sciences, Ecology, and Behavior. She loves her job at the Cherryland Humane Society where she has worked since 2018, as well as here at Barks and Rec., where she has taught classes since 2022.

Emma is a graduate of the Fear Free Shelters Program, a member of the Association for Professional Dog Trainers (APDT), an Accredited Dog Trainer through the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC-ADT), and a Certified Professional Dog Trainer, Knowledge-Assessed (CPDT-KA).
Emma also has a sweet, sassy husky named Malachi who always keeps her on her toes!
